**NiMet Predicts Up to 290 The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted an exceptionally wet year for several southern states, projecting between 250 and 290 rainy days in Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom in its 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction.
The outlook, released on Monday, places these coastal states at the top of the rainfall chart for the year, signaling a prolonged and intense rainy season likely to impact agriculture, transportation, and urban infrastructure.
NiMet’s forecast also places another cluster of states—including Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ebonyi, Anambra, and Enugu—in the next rainfall category, with an expected 200 to 250 rainy days.
In the central belt of the country, including Niger, Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kwara, and the Federal Capital Territory, residents should prepare for 150 to 200 rainy days.
The agency’s report is expected to guide federal and state authorities in flood risk planning, disaster preparedness, and infrastructure resilience projects.
