The crisis rocking the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has taken a new turn as the Agbo Major-led faction declared on Sunday that former party presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is free to leave and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a strongly worded statement issued by factional spokesperson Oginni Olaposi, the group welcomed speculations about Kwankwaso’s defection, describing it as “good riddance.”

Olaposi accused the former Kano State governor of trying to hijack the NNPP, despite his expulsion over alleged anti-party activities. “Kwankwaso still insists he is a member of our party even after his expulsion. He has no regard for the party structure and only seeks to control it for personal ambition,” the statement read.

Fueling the speculation of his exit, reports have linked the recent resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as APC’s national chairman to a possible move by Kwankwaso to defect and rejoin the ruling party.
