The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims that it extended the service year of a Lagos-based corps member, Rita Uguamaye—popularly known as Raye—over her outspoken criticism of President Bola Tinubu.

The clarification follows widespread speculation online after Uguamaye, a social media personality, gained public attention for a viral video posted on her TikTok account, @talktoraye.

In the video, she expressed deep frustration over Nigeria’s economic situation, citing high inflation and growing hardship across the country.

Raye didn’t mince words in her criticism, describing President Tinubu as a “terrible leader” and questioning the government’s response to the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.

Her comments sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many alleging that the NYSC had responded by extending her service year as a form of punishment.

However, the NYSC has firmly denied the allegation, stating that there was no punitive extension of Uguamaye’s service year and that disciplinary actions, if any, follow established protocols and are unrelated to political opinions or online commentary.
