The youth wing of apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth council worldwide has kicked against the proposed additional five states for the south-east.
It was reported that House of Representatives committee on constitution review had proposed the creation of 31 new states in the country, which could increase the sub-national governments from 36 to 67 including the federal capital territory.
However, the Ohanaeze youths in a statement signed by its national president, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said the proposal would further increase the marginalization of the south-east zone, urging the national assembly to jettison the idea in order to avoid worsening the ill-feelings felt by the south-east.
In the same vein, a former Kaduna central senator, Shehu Sani, has faulted the proposed creation of 31 additional states to the already 36 existing states in the country.
Reacting to the development in a post via his x page, the former lawmaker described the proposal as ironic and comical, alleging that politicians just want to carve out mini colonies for themselves.
