The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed on, barely a year after ascending the revered throne. Tribune Online confirmed that the monarch died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, just two days after marking his 90th birthday.

Oba Olakulehin, born on July 5, 1935, was installed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024, by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, following the passing of his predecessor, Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who died at 81 in March 2024.

Recall that the late Olubadan rose to the throne from the Balogun line, one of the two major chieftaincy paths in Ibadan’s traditional leadership structure.

His reign, though brief, was marked by his calm disposition and commitment to upholding the cultural heritage of Ibadanland.
