Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, cast his vote early on Saturday as the state conducted its local government elections. Adeleke arrived at Unit 9, Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, in Ede North Local Government Area around 7:56 a.m., accompanied by supporters and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Commending the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Adeleke praised the peaceful conduct of the exercise. He encouraged residents to participate without fear, urging all political stakeholders to avoid violence before, during, and after the polls.
“I urge all residents to come out and vote. This is democracy, and no one should feel intimidated,” he said. His remarks come amid concerns over potential political unrest, especially following the withdrawal of the Labour Party from the election.
Despite opposition criticisms and police concerns over security, the Osun government remained firm in its decision to proceed with the elections. Streets were reportedly deserted in some areas, as voters trickled into polling units.
Adeleke expressed confidence in his party’s success, stating that PDP candidates were poised for victory. However, opposition parties have raised concerns over the credibility of the process, citing irregularities in the buildup to the polls.
The election outcome will be closely watched, as it could set the tone for political alignments ahead of future state and national contests.
