Worried by the surge in kidnappings, killings, and violent crimes in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, leaders and stakeholders gathered at a security summit on Tuesday to chart a new path for peace and protection.

The summit, convened by the Chairman of the council, Tope Omolayo, was held at Achievers University, Owo, and drew together an influential mix of traditional rulers, top government functionaries, security chiefs, and community leaders.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami were represented by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Security, Olubenga Atiba, who delivered their message of commitment to restoring calm and strengthening grassroots intelligence.

Among the high-profile attendees was the Olowo of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Gbadegeshin Ogunoye III, whose presence underscored the importance of royal backing in community-led security efforts.

Also present were officials from the Nigerian Army, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, and the State Security Service, all of whom reiterated the need for synergy between formal and local security structures.

Discussions at the summit focused on the root causes of insecurity, including youth unemployment, porous forest reserves, and inadequate surveillance.
