Residents and community leaders of Orisunmibare/Ita Faaji in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State have called on Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently intervene and rehabilitate the only access road into their area, describing their daily experience as agonising and worsening during the rainy season.

During a press briefing held in Ibadan on Friday, several residents shared their frustrations, saying the deteriorating road has made life increasingly unbearable, especially with the recent stretch of torrential rains.

Ganiyu Are, Chairman of the Otu Alaafia Estate Landlords’ Association, said the road connecting the community from the Wire and Cable area of the Apata-Abeokuta Road has become completely impassable.

“We’ve had six consecutive days of heavy rainfall since Sallah Day, and our only road has become a river of mud. This road has never been tarred in the history of Ido Local Government, and that is unacceptable in this day and age,” Are said.

He described the situation as a daily struggle for residents, especially school children, the elderly, and emergency services, who are often stranded or unable to navigate the route.

Other residents echoed his sentiments, calling on the state government to prioritise rural infrastructure in its development agenda and provide at least a graded, motorable road as a temporary solution.
