The Oyo State Government has announced the successful dredging of 11 rivers across the state.
This development comes on the heels of warnings from the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), which listed Oyo among states likely to experience significant flooding this year.
Disclosing the efforts, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, stated on Wednesday that the announcement was made during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
Oyelade also revealed that the Ministry of Environment has been mandated to acquire additional compactor trucks to improve refuse collection and waste management across the state, reinforcing the government’s commitment to preventing environmental hazards during the wet season.
