The Oyo State Government has launched a crackdown on illegal structures, shanties, and indiscriminate truck parking along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway toll gate and high-tension power lines.

The operation, led by the Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (retd.), is meant to curb safety hazards and prevent accidents caused by encroachments on the highway.

“This enforcement is crucial to prevent loss of lives and the dangers posed by indiscriminate trailer parking on the highway,” Odukoya stated, emphasizing that the exercise will continue after previous warnings were ignored.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, Major Adekoya Adesagba (retd.), described the initiative as a multi-agency effort tackling environmental and security threats at the state’s gateway.

However, Abass Ademola, a representative of the Diesel Sellers Association, urged the government to provide alternative locations for affected businesses, warning that the crackdown could lead to job losses and insecurity.

The joint task force, including the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, Federal Road Safety Corps, environmental officers, Operation Burst, Amotekun, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, carried out the enforcement.
