The Oyo State Government has sealed off a collapsed building under construction belonging to a well-known restaurant chain in the Dugbe area of Ibadan. The action comes after an on-the-spot assessment by the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Akin-Funmilayo.
Speaking to journalists, Akin-Funmilayo said the move was to protect lives and property while allowing the state to properly investigate the incident. Preliminary findings revealed that some of the construction materials used in the project were of low quality and possibly substandard.
To prevent further tragedies, the commissioner announced that the state would conduct an integrity test not only on the collapsed structure but also on other branches of the restaurant operating across Oyo State.
“The outcome of the test will determine our next course of action,” Akin-Funmilayo said, stressing the state’s commitment to enforcing building safety standards and preventing future collapses.
