A new controversy has emerged in Oyo state as five kingmakers have faulted governor seyi makinde’s decision to initiate a fresh selection process for the alaafin of Oyo, describing the move as illegal and a violation of judicial processes.
In a letter addressed to the governor and signed by their legal counsel, Adekunle Sobaloju (SAN), the kingmakers claimed the governor’s move disregards a pending court case concerning the selection process.
The kingmakers further noted that the governor’s actions disregard the majority decision of the traditional council, which had earlier selected prince Lukman Adelodun Gbadegesin as the Alaafin-elect.
They urged the Governor to suspend any plans to initiate a fresh process for selecting the next Alaafin during the pendency of the court case, in obedience to the law and integrity of the courts.
