The Oyo State Police Command has deployed security personnel across the state ahead of the July 7 Founder’s Day celebration of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa, also known as the Black Axe cult.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, in Ibadan.

The annual celebration, observed by members of the movement, is scheduled for Monday, July 7, 2025.

According to Osifeso, the deployment followed intelligence reports indicating the potential for violent clashes and reprisals between rival gangs during the celebration.

“Our intelligence-led policing and community partnership efforts have yielded vital information suggesting that rival gangs may engage in large-scale retribution and mayhem during this event,” he said.

The police spokesperson noted that the Command would not tolerate any form of violence or public disorder and assured residents of the state of their safety. He further warned that individuals or groups found inciting unrest would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to prevent criminal elements from taking advantage of the event.
