The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), Adesagba Adekoya, has described Odunayo Alade, the father of Kehinde Alade, the teenager killed by a stray bullet in Ibadan as a serial traffic offender.

Adekoya made the remarks during a recent press briefing, offering updates on the incident that has sparked public outrage. He disclosed that Alade had previously been arrested and fined N15,000 on May 14 for wrongful parking, less than a week before the fatal event involving his son.

Defending the involvement of the police in traffic enforcement operations, Adekoya said the collaboration was necessary to protect OYRTMA officials from frequent attacks. “This year alone, about eight of our personnel have been assaulted with serious injuries,” he stated.

He added that motorists often respond aggressively to traffic law enforcement, justifying the need for security backup to ensure the safety of OYRTMA officers.

The fatal shooting occurred on Tuesday during a high-speed pursuit involving OYRTMA and police officers, reportedly targeting suspected internet fraudsters. A stray bullet struck Kehinde, a secondary school student, prompting protests and a call for justice from the public.
