A former France international and Manchester United star Patrice Evra is making an unexpected leap into mixed martial arts, with his professional debut set for May in Paris.
The announcement was made on Friday by the Professional Fighters League (PFL), an American MMA promoter, which confirmed that the 43-year-old ex-footballer will enter the cage to fulfil what he described as a “new dream.”
Evra, who earned 81 caps for France and won multiple major titles during his football career, has reportedly been training in combat sports since 2016 alongside his friend and PFL Europe star, Cédric Doumbé.
“You guys should know by now, I love this game too!” Evra said in a statement. “I’ve performed on the world’s biggest stages, won every major trophy in football, but PFL Europe Paris will be an incredibly special night for me.”
