The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have disagreed over the admissibility of an Appeal Court judgment in the ongoing petition before the Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

The dispute arose on Saturday in Akure when Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the APC sought to tender as evidence the judgment of the Appeal Court, Akure Division, which dismissed a pre-election appeal filed by the PDP and its governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi, on January 28.

Ajayi and the PDP had challenged an earlier ruling by the state high court, which affirmed that Aiyedatiwa and his running mate, Olayide Adelami, were eligible to contest the November 16, 2024, governorship election. The opposition party alleged that Adelami had presented a forged certificate, rendering the ticket invalid.

However, APC’s lead counsel, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), argued that the PDP had created a constitutional contradiction by including the disqualification issue in its petition despite the Appeal Court’s decision striking it out.

The tribunal is expected to rule on the admissibility of the judgment in the coming days.
