Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have scheduled an emergency meeting for Friday in Asaba, Delta State, to address the growing turmoil within the party. The decision comes in the wake of a chaotic Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, where tensions flared between party members.

The Abuja meeting descended into disorder after supporters of the embattled National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, physically attacked former PDP Youth Leader, Sunday Ude-Okoye. This latest incident has further exposed the deep divisions within the party, prompting urgent intervention from the governors.

Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, admitted that internal conflicts among party leaders were fueling the crisis rather than fostering unity. He assured BoT members that he remains committed to holding the much-anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in February, as demanded by the PDP Governors Forum and other key stakeholders.

Meanwhile, a senior member of the National Working Committee (NWC), who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that BoT members expressed strong displeasure over the assault on Ude-Okoye.

Many viewed the attack as a sign of increasing factional battles within the party, with different camps vying for control.
