A presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi has officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential race with a pledge to serve only one four-year term if elected.
Obi made the declaration during a live session on X Spaces Sunday night, where he fielded questions from Nigerians at home and in the diaspora. In a follow-up statement released Monday by his media aide, Ibrahim Umar of the Peter Obi Media Reach, the former Anambra State governor also ruled out any joint presidential ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
However, Obi expressed openness to a coalition, but insisted that any alliance must be driven by the desire to solve Nigeria’s most pressing challenges.
“If the coalition is not about stopping the killings in Benue, Zamfara, how to revive our economy, how to make our industries productive, how to put food on the tables of Nigerians… Count me out. Nigeria is currently at war. We need to do something about it,” Obi said.
The Labour Party flagbearer said his ambition is anchored on a vision to transform the country. He pledged to stabilise Nigeria within two years of his administration, promising reforms across the economy, security, and industry.
