The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has thrown its full weight behind the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, insisting that he does not require any alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or endorsements from political heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar or Nasir El-Rufai to clinch victory in the 2027 presidential election.

In an exclusive interview, the Deputy President of the NLC Political Commission, Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, described Obi as a “sellable and formidable” candidate with broad national appeal and the capacity to defeat President Bola Tinubu in a fair electoral contest.

“Peter Obi doesn’t need any coalition to win in 2027. He’s already a symbol of hope for many Nigerians,” Ndubuaku stated. “He was clearly leading in the 2023 polls before what we saw as controversial electoral glitches. Don’t forget he beat Tinubu in Lagos—his stronghold. That alone speaks volumes.”

Ndubuaku dismissed growing speculation about Obi potentially rejoining the PDP, describing the party as a “crisis-ridden and near-empty platform,” and reiterated the Labour Party’s resolve to remain the political vehicle for the former Anambra State governor.
