In his first Sunday address at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV issued a heartfelt plea for “no more war,” calling on world powers to work toward peace in ongoing global conflicts.
Reflecting on the devastating impact of current crises, the newly selected pontiff advocated for a “lasting peace” in Ukraine, a ceasefire in Gaza, and expressed hope for the recent peace agreement between India and Pakistan.
“I am deeply hurt by the events unfolding in Gaza,” the Pope said, adding that he yearned for a “lasting accord” between India and Pakistan, as well as a genuine and enduring peace in Ukraine. His words resonated with many in St. Peter’s Square, where the faithful gathered for his inaugural address.
The Pope also recited the Regina Caeli prayer in honour of the Virgin Mary, offering spiritual comfort and hope for those affected by conflict.
