Nollywood actor and self-styled minister Yul Edochie has reignited controversy with a bold declaration of his spiritual beliefs. In an Instagram post on January 29, 2025, Edochie proclaimed himself a “hardcore traditionalist,” vowing never to abandon the ways of his forefathers.

Criticizing Africans who distance themselves from their indigenous beliefs, he wrote, “Because of fear of what people will say, Africans are running away from their powerful African religion and originality. Abomination! I will NEVER abandon the ways of my forefathers. It is built on truth, transparency, and fairness. I’m a Hardcore Traditionalist.” He further crowned himself with several traditional titles, including “ISI MMILI JI OFOR” and “THE KING OF WARRIORS.”

His statement quickly sparked reactions on social media, with many questioning the seeming contradiction between his traditionalist stance and his earlier decision to become a gospel minister in 2024. Some critics accused him of inconsistency, while others argued that faith is a personal journey and subject to evolution.

Edochie, known for his outspoken nature and dramatic life choices, has often found himself at the center of controversy, whether in his career, personal life, or spiritual beliefs.

This latest declaration has only added to the ongoing discourse about his evolving identity and ideological shifts.
