The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to commence the construction of a new headquarters for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

The new facility will be located in the Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory. According to Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, President Bola Tinubu is expected to officially flag off the construction next week.

The development is one of several infrastructure projects lined up by the FCTA as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s second year in office.

Other projects scheduled for commissioning or ground-breaking include the renovated Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC), newly completed bus terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi, and the Apo-Wassa dual carriageway.

Additional infrastructure works span various parts of the capital, including the N16 interchange and roads connecting Maitama through Katampe to Jahi, the inner northern expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa), and CN8 road linking Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Court of Appeal.

Also listed are the N20 flyover on the Kubwa road, the Life Camp junction to Ring Road III, and several access roads in Kabusa, Takushara, Ketti, and Giri District.

A 15km road linking the Abuja-Lokoja A2 junction to Pai in Kwali Area Council, as well as roads in Ushafa, War College, and near the army checkpoint in Bwari Area Council, are also part of the ongoing projects.

The FCTA says the planned INEC headquarters will enhance the commission’s operational capacity and improve the delivery of its constitutional mandate.
