A nationwide protest spearheaded by the Take-It-Back Movement and allied civil society groups erupted in Abuja on Monday, April 7, 2025, as demonstrators took to the streets to demand urgent action on worsening economic conditions, rising insecurity, and the alleged misuse of the Cybercrime Act.

Protesters, carrying placards with bold inscriptions like “Stop the Repression” and “Let Us Breathe,” gathered in the heart of the capital to express frustration with what they describe as an increasingly authoritarian stance by the government.

The demonstration also spotlighted the tense situation in Rivers State, which organisers referred to as a “state of emergency.”

Prominent human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was present at the protest ground, lending his voice and support to the campaign.

Despite warnings from some quarters, the protest held peacefully in Abuja, with security agencies reportedly maintaining a distant but visible presence.
