The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has condemned the recent vandalism of electricity transmission lines in Abuja, describing it as a significant setback to Nigeria’s energy sector.

Recall tha Yhe Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) earlier announced that vital transmission lines supplying power to parts of Abuja, including the Central Area and Maitama, have been attacked, stolen, and damaged by vandals. This marks the second major incident in less than a month, following the destruction of the 330 kilovolts (kV) Shiroro-Katampe transmission line.

Speaking at the inauguration of a 100MVA power transformer at the Isolo substation in Lagos on Friday, Adelabu expressed his frustration over the repeated acts of vandalism.

“These acts have plunged several areas into darkness, including my office in Garki,” the minister said.

“It is heartbreaking to see critical infrastructure destroyed just weeks after being installed. This shows a lack of love for our country.”

Adelabu highlighted the broader implications of vandalism, citing Bayelsa State’s four-month-long blackout due to similar incidents. “These acts do nothing but frustrate efforts to stabilise energy transmission and set the country back,” he said.

The minister therefore called on all stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector players, and local communities, to collaborate in protecting Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
