The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, stating that his continued disregard for reconciliation with lawmakers could lead to his impeachment.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in Rivers, Tony Okocha, criticised Fubara’s alleged failure to initiate any genuine peace moves with members of the state House of Assembly.
“I can confirm that there is no reconciliation effort currently underway in Rivers,” Okocha said. “The suspended governor has not made any move to reconcile with the lawmakers.”
Recall that the crisis between the executive and legislative arms in Rivers State has deepened in recent months, with political tensions escalating following Fubara’s suspension and the defection of some lawmakers.
Okocha stressed that unless the governor reaches out in good faith to resolve the rift, the option of impeachment remains a legitimate recourse for the embattled Assembly.
