Saudi Arabia has officially declared the sighting of the crescent moon, signaling the beginning of Dhul Hijjah 1446—the final and holiest month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

In a statement shared via Haramain Sharifain’s official X account, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, marks the first day of Dhul Hijjah, setting the stage for the most sacred period in the Islamic faith.

The announcement also confirmed key dates for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage and Eid celebrations:

Day of Arafah – Thursday, June 5, 2025

Eid-el-Adha – Friday, June 6, 2025

The Day of Arafah, observed on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, represents the spiritual climax of Hajj. On this day, millions of Muslim pilgrims will gather at Mount Arafat, offering prayers and seeking forgiveness.

Following closely is Eid-el-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham) unwavering devotion to Allah through his willingness to sacrifice his son. Muslims around the world observe the festival with communal prayers, charitable giving, and the ritual sacrifice of livestock.

The announcement enables Muslims across the globe to begin spiritual and logistical preparations.
