The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to respond to audit queries relating to discrepancies in its financial statements.
The development came after the NNPC failed to appear before the committee on Thursday and instead sent a letter requesting a two-month extension to provide answers to the audit issues.
However, the committee, chaired by Senator Aliyu Wadada, rejected the extension request, stressing that the matter was of urgent national importance.
Wadada warned that failure to comply with the July 10 deadline would attract serious constitutional consequences.
The ultimatum was formally communicated to Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC, who has been asked to ensure the company responds to all outstanding queries before the expiration of the timeline.
