Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Wednesday in Asaba by Senator James Manager after a high-stakes meeting at the Government House that lasted over six hours. Flanked by key political figures, Manager declared that the decision was unanimous and far-reaching, signaling a major political realignment in one of the PDP’s traditional strongholds.

“All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC,” Manager said. “We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat.”

The mass defection marks a stunning blow to the PDP, which has long held sway in Delta State. With this shift, the APC now gains control of the state’s entire political machinery—from the executive to the grassroots.

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniagwu Charles, later confirmed the development, noting that the decision was not made lightly. “This was a strategic and collective decision taken in the best interest of Delta State and its people,” he said.
