The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly met with his political rival and former ally, Nyesom Wike, at the Minister’s residence in Abuja.
Sources close to the development told DAILY POST that the meeting was facilitated by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba. The intervention is believed to be a high-level effort to de-escalate tensions in Rivers State following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the oil-rich region.
According to an insider, Fubara “walked straight into Wike’s living room because that’s a familiar terrain” and offered an apology to the FCT Minister, indicating a potential effort toward reconciliation.
Although the details of the meeting’s outcome remain unclear, the insider confirmed that it did take place but could not verify if it would lead to the lifting of the emergency rule.
This development comes shortly after Fubara met President Tinubu in London amid heightened political tension in Rivers State. Tinubu had earlier suspended Fubara, his deputy, and all state lawmakers for six months, appointing a Sole Administrator to oversee governance.
Wike, in earlier comments, had expressed a strong desire to see Fubara removed from office but acknowledged that Tinubu’s intervention prevented such an outcome.
With the Abuja meeting now confirmed, observers say Rivers State may be on the path to a fragile political resolution, although it remains to be seen what form it will take.
