Founding Years: The Spark Ignites (Est. 2016)
Phoenix Athletics SC was born out of a dream, one rooted in youth empowerment, sportsmanship, and community. Founded in 2016 by passionate local coaches and youth development through sports advocates, the club set out to provide structure and opportunity for talented grassroots athletes in Ekiti State and beyond.
What began with a handful of boys training on dusty fields grew into a full-fledged movement. The club’s flame was lit and it burned with purpose.
Fountain Youths floats Phoenix FC 2016
On February 28, 2016, Fountain Youths Sports Club of Ado Ekiti, formally announced that it intends to float Phoenix Athletics Sports Club that will ply their trade in Nationwide League One.
The club in readiness for the 2015/2016 NLO league season set Tuesday March 1, as resumption date and. No fewer than 40 players were invited to the team screening exercise where the exceptional ones formed the bedrock of the team. It was during this era that the now-iconic maroon and gold kits were first introduced, representing passion and pride.
2017: Projecting the objectives of the club further
By Jan. 23rd, 2017, Phoenix Athletics SC hosted the All Ekiti State Secondary School Football Competition tagged Phoenix Athletics SC Cup at 4 designated centers with 8 schools from 8 local government areas of Ekiti State featuring in the maiden edition. The competition was established basically to introduce sports back to schools, to engage students and build positive competitive character amongst the students.
2018: The Little Ones of Ekiti gets academic and sports scholarships
Coming on the heels of its well deserved victory at the recently concluded Seyi Akinwunmi football tournament, Ekiti State U-13 football team fondly called the ‘Little Ones’, have been offered sports and academic scholarships to secure their future.
The Little Ones from Ekiti defeated favorites Kwara State U-13 team in the final of the Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi Charity Cup Competition to clinch the title and some of the outstanding lads were duly rewarded with academic scholarships.
2022: The Rebuild
After years of little successes, 2018 brought challenges, financial setbacks, player departures, and organizational restructuring. But like the mythical bird, Phoenix was made to rise again. The club doubled down on community engagement, grassroots training, and talent scouting, preparing for a bold resurgence.
2025 and Beyond: A New Era
Now reintroducing itself to the world, Phoenix Athletics SC is not just a football club – it’s a movement. With clear goals to:
-Compete in national youth and amateur leagues
-Develop future stars through elite training
-Create sustainable careers for local talent
-Launch Phoenix Athletics SC League for U-17 & U-19 to be known as Rising Stars League
-Engage fans, families, and partners across Nigeria
