A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, has warned that President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform efforts will remain ineffective unless Nigeria’s political governance structure is overhauled.

Speaking on a Televised programme on Friday, Agbakoba said the country’s centralised system of governance is obstructing meaningful development and service delivery across key sectors.

He argued that despite statistical claims of economic growth, Nigerians are still grappling with the high cost of basic food items such as garri, rice, beans, and palm oil, suggesting that real economic progress remains invisible on the streets.

“When the National Bureau of Statistics announces a GDP growth rate of 3.3 per cent, is it happening on the ground where people can’t afford food?” he asked.

Agbakoba therefore urged President Tinubu to demonstrate bold leadership in the final two years of his tenure by pushing for a structural realignment of power among the federal, state, and local governments.
