The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, has warned that President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies could cost him re-election in 2027. Gabam stated that unless the administration reviews its policies and reshuffles its cabinet, Tinubu might struggle to secure a second term.

Speaking on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, Gabam criticized several government policies, including the removal of petrol subsidies, the unification of forex rates, and tariff hikes in electricity and telecommunications. He described these measures as unpopular and detrimental to Nigerians.

He also drew parallels between the current economic discontent and the protests against former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, which ultimately weakened his re-election bid.

According to Gabam, history shows that spending money alone cannot guarantee electoral victory if a leader loses public support.

Gabam also accused the Tinubu administration of stifling opposition voices instead of addressing governance challenges. He suggested that if the government continues its approach, it might as well push for a constitutional amendment to establish a one-party system.
