President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the entire board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), including Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari and board chairman Pius Akinyelure, in a sweeping overhaul of the state-run oil giant.

The move, effective April 2, 2025, was announced in a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga. Tinubu cited the need for enhanced operational efficiency, restored investor confidence, and a more commercially viable NNPC as the rationale behind the decision.

In the restructuring, Bayo Ojulari has been appointed as the new Group CEO, replacing Kyari, while Ahmadu Musa Kida takes over as the new non-executive chairman. Additionally, Adedapo Segun has been confirmed as NNPC’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
