U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered additional deployments of National Guard troops and U.S. Marines to Los Angeles, as protests over immigration enforcement escalate for a fourth consecutive day.
The move has drawn sharp criticism from California Governor Gavin Newsom, who described the decision as “deranged” and “dictatorial,” vowing to challenge the federal deployment in court.
Demonstrations, which erupted in response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in predominantly Latino neighborhoods, have spread to other cities across the country.
At the moment, protesters are demanding an end to aggressive immigration operations and calling for reforms.
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, law enforcement has used rubber bullets, stun grenades, and other non-lethal weapons to disperse crowds, particularly in the downtown area and near key federal buildings.
