U.S. President Donald Trump is facing criticism from Catholic groups after posting an AI-generated image portraying himself as the Pope on official White House social media platforms.
The controversial post came just days after the death of Pope Francis on April 21, sparking outrage among mourning Catholics.
The New York State Catholic Conference described the post as a “mockery of the faith,” accusing the president of insensitivity and disrespect at a time when the global Catholic community is grieving and preparing to elect a new pontiff.
Adding to the controversy, Trump recently joked to reporters: “I’d like to be Pope,” a remark many saw as tone-deaf.
