President Donald Trump has unveiled a controversial new immigration policy called the “Gold Card”, a high-priced alternative to the traditional *Green Card given to immigrants.
Under this plan, immigrants can purchase the Gold Card for $5 million, securing a pathway to U.S. citizenship.
Speaking on the proposal recently, Trump informed that the economic benefits of the initiative, positions it as a way to attract wealthy and successful individuals who would contribute significantly to the U.S. economy.
“We’re gonna be selling a gold card. You have a green card, this is a gold card. We’re gonna be putting a price on that card of about $5 million, and that’s gonna give you green card privileges plus…” Trump stated.
According to him, the Gold Card would not only grant residency benefits but also provide a fast-track route to citizenship, making it an attractive option for affluent immigrants looking to settle in the U.S.
“They’ll be wealthy and they’ll be successful and they’ll be spending a lot of money, paying a lot of taxes, and employing a lot of people,” Trump added, underscoring his belief that the policy would boost investment and job creation.
The announcement has already sparked widespread debate, with critics questioning whether immigration should be commodified and whether the program favors the elite over skilled workers or refugees. However, Trump’s supporters argue that the plan could bring billions in revenue while ensuring that immigrants contribute significantly to the economy.
