The United States has decided not to impose 25 percent tariffs on Colombian goods following an agreement between both nations regarding the deportation of migrants, the White House announced.

The move comes after US deportation flights were barred from landing in Colombia last Sunday, prompting former President Donald Trump to threaten tariffs on all Colombian imports.

Initially, Colombian President Gustavo Petro insisted his country would only accept deportees on civilian planes, emphasizing the need to avoid treating them as criminals.

However, a resolution has now been reached. According to the White House, Colombia has agreed to accept deported migrants arriving on US military aircraft “without limitation or delay.”

In response, Colombia stated that the United States has committed to treating deported citizens with dignity, resolving the standoff amicably.
