Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly criticised Umar Damagum, the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for directing Senator Samuel Anyanwu to resume as the party’s National Secretary.

Wike, speaking during the inauguration of interchange bridges along an arterial road in Abuja on Wednesday, questioned Damagum’s authority, stating that Anyanwu is not his appointee and cannot be ordered back to office through a press statement.

The FCT Minister expressed deep concerns about the direction of the party under Damagum’s leadership, accusing him of “perpetrating illegalities” and failing to provide effective leadership. “I watched on national television and heard the acting national chairman of PDP directing the national secretary to resume,” Wike said. “It is unfortunate that party leaders are even consulting INEC on whether to obey a Supreme Court judgment.”

Wike’s comments come in response to a press conference held earlier at the PDP national secretariat, where Damagum announced that the party had resolved to reintegrate Anyanwu into the National Working Committee. Damagum described the decision as a difficult but necessary move, aimed at stabilising the party.

He was flanked by Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed; Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro; and other key party figures during the announcement.
