Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu, calling for a state of emergency on what he described as Tinubu’s “tasteless government.”
In a statement released Wednesday by his media office, the 2023 PDP presidential candidate condemned the president’s continued stay in France amid worsening security crises at home. Atiku accused Tinubu of abandoning his responsibilities while Nigerians grapple with bloodshed in Plateau and Benue states, and the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in Borno.
“The country is in a full-blown state of emergency,” Atiku stated. He described Tinubu’s so-called “working visit” to France as nothing more than a veiled vacation, slamming it as “a dereliction of duty on a catastrophic scale.”
He further criticized the presidency for attempting to spin the trip, sarcastically remarking that clarifying it wasn’t a medical tour was hardly commendable. “What justification is there for gallivanting across Europe while Nigeria bleeds?” he asked.
