In response to a surge in deadly attacks across Nigeria, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has launched a special operation aimed at curbing the wave of violence gripping several parts of the country.

On Tuesday, Egbetokun directed all Police Mobile Force (PMF) squadrons to immediately maintain at least one fully equipped, combat-ready unit on standby to respond to emergencies. The move comes amid growing concern over security breakdowns, with fresh attacks reported in Kwara, Benue, and Sokoto states, where at least 21 people were killed by suspected bandits.

The directive was issued during a strategic meeting with Squadron Commanders in Abuja, where the police chief laid out plans to reinforce rapid-response capabilities across the country.

The decision follows weeks of relentless violence in states such as Plateau, Enugu, and Benue, leaving many communities in fear and mourning.
