Senegal became the first African nation to defeat England in an international football match, pulling off a stunning 3-1 win on Tuesday night at the City Ground.

England, who narrowly edged Andorra 1-0 in their previous outing, started brightly with captain Harry Kane giving the Three Lions an early lead. However, the Teranga Lions responded with grit and flair, gradually taking control of the game.

Ismaila Sarr levelled the score with a composed finish, before Habib Diarra capitalised on a defensive lapse to fire Senegal into the lead. England’s attempt at a quick free-kick backfired, leading to a swift Senegalese counterattack finished off by Cheikh Sabaly, effectively sealing the result.

The loss marks Thomas Tuchel’s first defeat since taking over as England manager.
